Im always in two minds when a band or artist has an opening and closing track for their EP or album as I do normally prefer the traditional kick it in front the start but Yasmin sets the tone so well with her opening track. It warms you into her shoegazy synthy style beautifully. The ambient synths and dull bass make you feel like you’re floating in space. When her voice and guitar came in and are later surrounded by the ambience again it feels like you’re being pulled into the gravity of the world from her perspective. A brilliant way to start the EP for sure!

When you can’t have her is our next stop on this beautiful musical journey and I love the arrangement of the song. The guitars instantly remind me on the indie music I had on repeat in my uni days. All the parts complement each other so well, even play parts together in unison. It gives me vibes of if the smiths and the cure had a daughter who they taught their songwriting and guitar playing to. It’s such a cool take on several classic indie themes with a modern shoegazey sensibility. Loved this track from start to finish.

Our journey then takes us to Expected as much which is the third stop on this musical journey. This is the twist on the story. The song starting out with a beautiful chorusy crunch sound definitely gives a more grungy angsty feel. Yasmin explores more of her vocal range here which I love. Showing off her range further than the previous tracks and doing it so cleanly as well. I love the Melodie’s in this track from the guitars to main motif of the voice. With a sudden finish as a statement to the track and reinforcing its bold and strong statements throughout I love how she added this twist of a track. It’s not a massive change but enough to be impactful and powerful in comparison to the other tracks on the EP.

This twists throws you over to the next track Linen. This definitely combines aspects of the previous two tracks and it works so brilliantly. The guitars having more of a crunch with the shoegaze and chorus shining through their sound is such a great combination. Pushing along through the song it very much feels like the climactic piece and might be one of my favourites of the whole ep, especially that bridge! It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE a bridge and this one kicks you around so suddenly. I love how Yasmin has this fearlessness about her music. So unapologetically unique and very much built by someone with an extensive knowledge of how all the parts of a song should, could and can work together to create such a brilliant piece of art.

Out last stop takes us to closer. Yasmin claims this song as her favourite of the project and it’s clear to see why. The guitars, bass and drums all work in perfect unity and are carried through by her angelic vocals. This is such a brilliant way to end what is a fantastic collection of equally fantastic music. The synths building to the anthemic ending feels like the moment you leave the atmosphere of her world and a break into the space that surrounds it.

The whole project is riddled with fantastic storytelling with exciting musical twists and turns. It’s incredibly well thought out and works so well as a full collection.

Safe to say I will continue to be recommending this song to indie music fans and those who want to be taken on a journey of massive musical proportions.
