I love how the song kicks in straight away with a solid intro. It’s so well balanced with the guitar melody echoing over the top.
As we drop into the verse jacks voice is accompanied by a single guitar palm muted which really helps his voice stand out even more.
His voice is so strong and carries the melody so well. I instantly started to hear old school pop punk influences from my childhood but with more of an alternative rock feel. It’s definitely something I could imagine on the opening credits of a coming of age film from the early naughties.
Everything about the song radiates the confidence of someone who knows exactly what they’re doing and how to do it well. Nothing feels overtly complicated but rather well rehearsed and just very strong. The arrangement with the back vocals and harmonies (especially through the second verse) feels like it belongs and adds to the balance of the song perfectly.
I love the bridge and the build to another drop down for the final chorus which allows Jack to show off that extra gravel and gruff in his voice which is a brilliant way to show he knows how to use his voice and use it well.
Big fan of this song, like everything I’ve been sent I never know what will come into my inbox but this was more than a pleasant surprise and has comfortably landed a place in my Spotify favourite songs.
As an added bonus he has an acoustic version of the song on Spotify as well with Holly Lawrence accompanying him and it is just as fantastic. You know you have a brilliant song when you can strip it down and make it sound completely new. It actually feels so criminal that this song has been released for just over two years and has yet to hit the 1000 listen mark! Like that seems so so crazy to me!!
Definitely worth listening too and indulging yourself in a masterclass of songwriting and musical arrangement because this is how it is done!
